A game's genre describes what the game may best be described as, such as being an action/adventure game, a puzzle game, etc.

Action games are characterized by fast-paced gameplay, louder noises, and usually fast-paced soundtracks. (e.g. Starfox)
[edit] Platformer
Platformer games play out in a 2-D style, with the player moving their charact3er around on a screen which is set up in a cross-cut view of the action. Usually, the game scrolls from left to right. (e.g. Super Mario World)
[edit] Adventure
Adventure games usually involve the player travelling through large areas, exploring new locales and experiencing new ideas, in the game. Tales of Phantasia is an excellent adventure game. (e.g. EarthBound and Final Fantasy series)

Satire is a type of game which uses sarcasm, ridicule or crude humor to expose or denounce games, concepts, characters, or other hacks which deserve such ridicule or denouncement.
