[edit] Features

[edit] Level/Map Editor

  • MetEdit is best applied in its use as a full-featured visual level and map editor. The program allows the user to not only move background objects and enemies to new locations within rooms but also allows the user to select what enemies and objects these actually represent. Enemies may be switched between easy/hard types, and room objects may be set to use any of four available color pallettes. Every individual room of every one of Metroid's five areas can be edited in this manner, the results of which can be saved into the Metroid ROM. The current version does not edit door data, however. Any of the available rooms in any of the five areas may be placed for use anywhere within Metroid's 32x32 map grid. Samus's starting location on the map for all five areas can also be chosen.

[edit] Pallette Editor

  • MedEdit features a built-in editor that is capable of editing some of the primary color pallettes used by the game, such as those used by the game's room objects, it's easy and hard enemies, and, to a limited extext, it's doors and beams. The color pallette editor is useful yet limited in it's scope, as the current version of MetEdit does not allow editing of "pallette-switched" area colors, Samus's colors, etc.

[edit] Item Editor

  • MetEdit features a somewhat-limited albeit useful item editor that is capable of moving many of the game's objects such as missile tanks, energy tanks, and special items to different locations within Metroid's overall map area. It does this based on the limitations of the Metroid ROM, as some items are not available to move separately and must be moved in conjunction with other items in the same horizontal line.

[edit] Password Generator

  • MetEdit features a built-in password generator that creates codes for use within Metroid's password screen based on pre-selected criteria. This is highly convenient in that it allows a Metroid hacker to "test" his/her newly hacked ROM under preset conditions chosen by the hacker beforehand, which can save time and effort it would otherwise take to test the hacked Metroid ROM up to that point.
